an effective coaching technique for goal setting & problem solving

     Can be used by anyone without special training

      Is easily understood, straightforward to apply & thorough

      Can be used in a large variety of circumstances 

      Enables people to leverage their own knowledge

 

Goal – What do you want to achieve

Reality – What are you currently doing or what is currently happening

Options/Obstacles – What options do you have?       
                               

                                 What obstacles are in your way?


Will – Do you want to change more than you want to stay the same?


           Do you have the will to change, if not, why not?

ndicators of Success – How will you know you’re making progress toward your goal?

 

Next Steps – Create your action plan

 

Go back to Goal - If you have succeeded, you are complete.  If not, revisit GROWING

Goal - Stop condescending to team

RealityI do it daily without realizing it

Options
Keep doing what I always do, Become Aware of my words, Acknowledge I have the power to change, Take Action – practice changing how I speak

Indicators of Success When my team agrees I am no longer condescending

Next Steps – I will ask my team for feedback weekly

GROWING Exercise

1.     Working in teams of 3, practice coaching each other

2.    Person A is the coach, Person B is the mentee, Person C is the observer who will provide feedback to the coach on what they did well and improvement opportunities

3.    Rotate roles to ensure each person gets to play each role

Goal – What do you want to achieve

Reality – What are you currently doing or what is currently happening

Options/Obstacles – What options do you have?        What obstacles are in your way?

Will – Do you want to change more than you want to stay the same?

Indicators of Success – How will you know you’re making progress toward your goal?
